The ABC opened the London Calypso Tent thirteen years ago. The Tent has grown to be the eagerly awaited pre-cursor to Notting Hill Carnival and is the place where the calypso enthusiasts gather to listen to the latest British calypso, hang out with friends, drink a Carib and eat a roti.

The pre carnival live Calypso Tent takes place for six weeks during July and August. It manifests only at Notting Hill Carnival time and is spread over 6 nights at the Yaa Asantewaa Arts Centre, attracting around 300 people a night.
